Round 1 of La Grand Quiz tournoi

The beginning of the  journey takes place with inauguration and for a tournament like La Grand Quiz Tournoi it has to be special so it started with  3 presentations done by dignitaries from the world stage of blind quizzing.

The first presentation showcased the evolution  and impact of such a tournament, , the 2nd one highlighted the role of prominent delegates round the globe and the last one showed the top 20 countries to watch out for during all 3 rounds of the contest, and it was a perfect display.

After the lighting and showcase,it was time for crackers and with officialon the stage, they announced the tournament to be open and the beginning of round 1of La Grande Quiz Tournoi.

To give a brief outline, the technology that was going to be used had to be Lebranz, Mizolo, Orbit reader, Dux sound, Sphinx audio braille sound and Obi record premium and it was all arranged under supervision  of technical aid from the French Telecast support network.

Game 1 started in decent  form for all 20 countries to showcase in Dubai. India did have a light start but the leader caught up and both the vice captain and the captain helped India to finish at 3rd spot, but unfortunately the 16 countries who finished bottom had to say goodbye and their journey ended here.

Similar to this, the 2nd game that was held in Singapore was getting more to  gear up in speed, now 192 countries were left and Indian team caught more pace here beating the other contenders and they progressed  1 spot further to 2nd while like the 1st game, 16 more countries who finished at bottom were heading back to home.

Now it went towards China where 176 countries were left , Mr. pant had a word with team to speed the best so they can face lowest country in 1st knockout to come and they did live up to expectations closing over Swiss to do better but like in previous 2 games, here 16 more countries who were at bottom has to  see their tournament ending and all 20 countries at wished  them well.

It was time to turn the heat on in Japan now, India finishing at top had  to face Tuvalu the 160th country and it was a knock out match of 2 rounds where Tuvalu had made tactical  pressure but Mr. Pant waited for their mistakes and it proved handy enough for them.

Using match awareness  the team easily handled the match and finished  with 6 to 10 mistakes, 4 less than the opponent  meaning Tuvalu lost by 20 points and India was through to the 2nd round of La Grande Quiz tournoi that would take place in August in different parts of Europe.

It is just a start but the team India is pleased, a short session was led by captain  and coach after the end of round 1 in India to express gratitude and they all are hopeful  for better performances in August til more such updates come, for now its cheers from charlie..

Indian expectations in Le grand quiz tournoi

India’s journey in the grand cultural moment like La Grand quiz Tournoi starts after we got freed, though in British times it was rare for blind people to get encouraged, after India got independent, we got our first chance to be part of it in 1956 but the performance was not much to admire in that time and only being present was a big moment to remember for us.

Our impact expanded a bit in the next occasion in 1972 where INdia did clear the 1st stage but finished in the top 80 nations which was indeed a much better influence to remember for us.

It was similar for us in the next opportunity in 1988 where we did reach up to the top 72 nations  but the impact of the 2nd round was still missing and there was a lot to be done as a visually impaired team representing a nation.

It was finally in the 21st century that we made a bigger impact when It happened last time, in 2004 we not only clear both 2 rounds but reached up to final last stage knock out where we got defeated to Australia who was the champions but as a memory it was a much better performance in leadership of previous captain Mukherji sir for INdia as  a visually impaired team.

Now Le Grand Quiz tournoi is  happening once more, the team that will represent India this time has  won 2 world cup which was never happened before, Mr. pant as a captain who  want this feather under his name with great support and as a team there is lot on stake but how the process goes on may count much more when it comes to expectations  to have glory moments  counted.

All we hope for is that our team will do well, a much better position to cover for the past and make all of us proud, there is much to come, and as every update will  come we would continue to bring that to you, till more such updates for now cheers from charlie..

Le Grand Quiz Tournoi

Eternity of visual impairment seems to stand on with this tournament, it is one most biggest cultural stand out moment in history after invention and impact of braille and the idea of this tournament also comes from France that got established in early 20th century by efforts of La Marques de Saunsei, the then known chief commissioner of International  quiz federation  of blind who wanted to arrange for something big and came with idea of this back in the year 1906.

It did take while to establish as those were times where blind were not as supported in the days of present, lot of questions were raised, chances were limited but the idea got accepted finally in year of 1908 and it was decided that this would be arranged in gap of every 16 years as a grand tournament for visually impaired making it a  unique one of its kind in competitive nature.

Technology was not as frequent in its first three edition that  held in 1908, 1924 and 1940, but in 1950s things started to change and it gradually became one of most crowding tournament after the 1956 edition  and seems to make visually impaired quizzers feel pride to be part of its to save the memory as once in  a  lifetime moment to be involved and participate as competitors.

Grandeur of this tournament is very heavy as the famous motto speaks the volume and  impact of this tournament where victory of cultural harmony is set as core criteria to bring all together under one roof:

c'est le jeu des vainqueurs

The influence of this tournament becomes more popular by its tagline where life and living as two concepts  stand to represent blind people with better life and it still seems to be firm for eternity of quizzing, as it says:

la vie et la vie font partie intégrante du succès

IN terms of rules, generally this tournament is played in 3 stages, 1st which is represented through Asia, next one via Europe and the final one that holds Australia which also shows how symbolic it is in its organising  nature.

To cover three stages,  the first one is a braille round with 1 knockout stage, the 2nd one, like the process has a typing round with 2 knockout stages and the final one is played with a headset with audio question sessions to proceed to the technical term.

As per the rules the previous winner of the tournament gets the chance to have honour of organising it and as Australia won it in 2004, this time it will partner with India the champion of previous 2 world cups (2016 and 2020) to organise  it as a cultural lesence.

The first round is going to take place in may, the second one in August and the final one in australia in NOvember to proceed the tournament and as it didn’t take place in 2020 due to Covid, this time every |VI quizzers await the chance to be part of this Grand moment as 208 countries will take part to make the moment honourable.

We will try to bring you every further update including Indian team practice, process of tournament and how it goes, till more such updates come,  for now cheers from charlie…
