Le Grand Quiz Tournoi

Eternity of visual impairment seems to stand on with this tournament, it is one most biggest cultural stand out moment in history after invention and impact of braille and the idea of this tournament also comes from France that got established in early 20th century by efforts of La Marques de Saunsei, the then known chief commissioner of International  quiz federation  of blind who wanted to arrange for something big and came with idea of this back in the year 1906.

It did take while to establish as those were times where blind were not as supported in the days of present, lot of questions were raised, chances were limited but the idea got accepted finally in year of 1908 and it was decided that this would be arranged in gap of every 16 years as a grand tournament for visually impaired making it a  unique one of its kind in competitive nature.

Technology was not as frequent in its first three edition that  held in 1908, 1924 and 1940, but in 1950s things started to change and it gradually became one of most crowding tournament after the 1956 edition  and seems to make visually impaired quizzers feel pride to be part of its to save the memory as once in  a  lifetime moment to be involved and participate as competitors.

Grandeur of this tournament is very heavy as the famous motto speaks the volume and  impact of this tournament where victory of cultural harmony is set as core criteria to bring all together under one roof:

c'est le jeu des vainqueurs

The influence of this tournament becomes more popular by its tagline where life and living as two concepts  stand to represent blind people with better life and it still seems to be firm for eternity of quizzing, as it says:

la vie et la vie font partie intégrante du succès

IN terms of rules, generally this tournament is played in 3 stages, 1st which is represented through Asia, next one via Europe and the final one that holds Australia which also shows how symbolic it is in its organising  nature.

To cover three stages,  the first one is a braille round with 1 knockout stage, the 2nd one, like the process has a typing round with 2 knockout stages and the final one is played with a headset with audio question sessions to proceed to the technical term.

As per the rules the previous winner of the tournament gets the chance to have honour of organising it and as Australia won it in 2004, this time it will partner with India the champion of previous 2 world cups (2016 and 2020) to organise  it as a cultural lesence.

The first round is going to take place in may, the second one in August and the final one in australia in NOvember to proceed the tournament and as it didn’t take place in 2020 due to Covid, this time every |VI quizzers await the chance to be part of this Grand moment as 208 countries will take part to make the moment honourable.

We will try to bring you every further update including Indian team practice, process of tournament and how it goes, till more such updates come,  for now cheers from charlie…
