It is a popular dance of Kerala and is greatly performed in group performance.
Here people are not only professionals but also have made it a ritual in cultural events to make it more efficient.
However the dance also has it's value in bigger group stage and has attracted millions when Bollywood stars perform the moves in cultural seasons.
Generally it consists of both males and females who have to sing, act, dance and step up each other moves.
These all moves takes place in order and certain procession that comes to act in a certain step by step move.
In such procession it is vital that they follow each other or a single move break and discourage the whole concept.
Historically it was generally performed to take certain rituals in areas of Kerala and later became a passion for the local people.

Even Katthakkali had been performed by groups to show their communicational status in early 1980s and they used it for social causes as well.
Traditionally it has great position in cultural sense and make it tougher to act as the procession goes on.

They generally take up on themselves to decide a certain Epic story and copy moves to give it a great cultural touch.
What this dance has done to Kerala that it has inspired them to continue their cultural legacy and extend it to other cultures.
Being expanded to other south Indian cultures, Katthakkali is also loved inTelangana and Andhra Pradesh where people do it on festive seasons.
Besides Bombay people had great affinity to it and has been adding smaller steps of the dance to bigger stages.
